SLCC Baseball heads to Arizona after strong showing in St. George

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 5, 2020) - The Salt Lake Community College baseball program had a strong showing last weekend in St. George, sweeping a Saturday doubleheader with South Mountain Community College.

The Bruins will have plenty of chances to see more quality Arizona-based competition this weekend, as they travel to play in a three-day tournament played at the Cubs Spring Training Complex in Phoenix. Salt Lake will play a doubleheader with Gateway on Thursday before facing off against South Mountain again Friday, along with No. 1 Central Arizona.

Looking forward to the competition, SLCC coach D.G. Nelson said his program is excited for the opportunities they have ahead of them in the coming week.

Salt Lake was able to earn two dramatic victories last Saturday against South Mountain, scoring on a walk-off grand slam to win game one and then holding on for a thrilling victory in game two of the day. The Bruins are playing in three preseason tournaments this year, with next weekend's Coyote Border Battle hosted by Southern Nevada serving as the other one.

SLCC's doubleheader with Gateway will start at 6:00 p.m. Friday, with Saturday's game against South Mountain beginning at 10:00 a.m. Sunday's opponent won't be determined until later in the tournament.
