TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 4, 2020) - The No. 11Â Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team has found a way to maintain momentum throughout Scenic West Athletic Conference play, in spite of a variety of adverse conditions.
Take last weekend, for instance - the Bruins, playing without several key players due to illness, found a way to earn a road win at Southern Idaho. Now Salt Lake, with a 7-0 mark in Scenic West play and a 21-4 overall record, can keep pushing its momentum forward in a pair of home games this week against USU Eastern and Colorado Northwestern.
SLCC coach
Kyle Taylor said his team is excited to return to the Lifetime Activities Center after going 2-0 in a pair of road games.
"It will be good to be back home this week," he said. "We need to get healthy from sickness and be ready to play against two dangerous teams."
Salt Lake will open the weekend's action with a game against USU Eastern on Thursday. USU Eastern is 3-4 in league play, coming off a big win over Colorado Northwestern at home last weekend. SLCC previously earned a 77-70 win over the Eagles in Price in early January. The Bruins are 2-0 against Colorado Northwestern, having earned a 109-83 win to open league play at home and then a 99-74 road win in Rangely.
Taylor said his team will have to be ready for the challenge both teams present.
"USU Eastern has been playing really well and they are physical and pound the ball inside, along with rebounding and defending well," he said. "CNCC is good in their matchup zone. It is hard to figure out and they have enough weapons on offense. It'll be a fun and challenging week for us as we need to keep focusing on getting better."
Thursday's game against USU Eastern will begin at 7:00 p.m. inside the Lifetime Activities Center. Saturday's home game against Colorado Northwestern is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.Â
