TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 20, 2020) - The Salt Lake Community College baseball team has had a sterling start to the 2020 season, downing nationally-ranked foes and sweeping through four games in Las Vegas last weekend.
SLCC will finally open the renovated Cate Field this week with a four-game home series on Friday and Saturday, with a doubleheader on Friday against Treasure Valley Community College opening up the weekend's action. Cate Field received an extensive renovation over the offseason, with a number of capital improvements made to the facility to ensure SLCC continues to have an elite venue for years-to-come.
With all of the upcoming excitement at playing in the venue, Bruins coach D.G. Nelson said this week's games will be another opportunity for his team to improve.
"We are still seeing progress and I love how this team competes," he said. "We still need to keep improving and that will come faster the more we get outside. This week we play at home against Treasure Valley, who is always a solid program. It should be fun."
Treasure Valley will open its 2020 season this weekend in the series. Salt Lake went 4-0 against Treasure Valley in the 2019 season.
Salt Lake's four-game series with Treasure Valley will start with a doubleheader on Friday at Cate Field, with the first pitch coming at 1:00 p.m. SLCC will also play a doubleheader on Saturday, with a start time of 12:00 p.m.
