No. 9 SLCC Basketball set for final Scenic West home game Saturday

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 13, 2020) - The No. 9 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team has already clinched a few of its 2019-20 goals with time left in the regular season, but that doesn't mean the Bruins won't be without motivation.

Salt Lake has clinched at least a share of the Scenic West title, also claiming a tiebreaker to earn the top seed, and will claim the outright title with either a win in any of its three final games or a loss by second-place Snow College. With the Bruins hosting the College of Southern Idaho on 'Sophomore Day' on Saturday, the stakes are definitely high as SLCC aims to claim its first outright Scenic West title since the 2017-18 season.

Bruins coach Kyle Taylor said the stakes are high for his team this week.

"Every week matters and every game matters," he said. "One of the hardest things to do in sports is to celebrate wins, celebrate accomplishments, celebrate conference championships and yet still stay focused on the ultimate goal and prize in the season. Winning the SWAC is significant, but it is not what we set out to do this season. We have to remember that this week and get back to work."

Salt Lake will return to the hardwood Saturday inside the Lifetime Activities Center, facing off against the College of Southern Idaho. The Bruins downed CSI at home earlier this season, 84-71, and earned a thrilling 91-84 road victory over the Golden Eagles. Southern Idaho is 3-6 in conference play.

Taylor said this week's game will be a strong test for his program.

"Our next opponent is good," he said. "CSI is talented and capable. Our focus this week will be on getting better in the areas we need to and focusing on preparing for our third game with CSI. The first two games were tough, CSI led in the 2nd half of both games, so they are more than capable of beating us. We need to be ready to play our best basketball."

Saturday's game against Southern Idaho is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start. Salt Lake will play on the road at Snow and USU Eastern next weekend.
