TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 12, 2020) - After a strong weekend in Arizona, the Salt Lake Community College baseball program will once be appearing in the Mojave Desert.
SLCC will travel to play in a four-game tournament hosted by the College of Southern Nevada this weekend, after an appearance in the championship game of last weekend's 'Zinger Bat Invitational' tourney in the Phoenix area. The Bruins earned several strong wins, including over nationally-ranked Central Arizona, and is pushing towards an impressive continuance of the preseason this weekend in Las Vegas.
Salt Lake coach D.G. Nelson said his team continues to show improvement, particularly with the results in Arizona a weekend ago.
"Overall, I'm pleased with our progress," he said. "Our guys have shown that they can beat anyone in the country and they still have a ton of development to go."
The Bruins earned wins over Gateway and South Mountain, along with Central Arizona. SLCC fell 11-3 to Yavapai College in the tournament final. Salt Lake will play four games in Vegas this weekend, followed up by a four-game series against Treasure Valley Community College. The TVCC series will begin on Feb. 20, serving as the home opener at Cate Field.
Salt Lake will open the CSN tourney on Thursday, with games scheduled each day throughout the weekend. SLCC will open Scenic West Athletic Conference play on Feb. 27.Â
