Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 1, 2020) – A thrilling victory was part of a doubleheader sweep for the Salt Lake Community College baseball team in St. George Saturday.

SLCC earned a walk-off 7-4 win over South Mountain Community College in game one on a doubleheader, followed up by a close 14-13 game two victory. The day's action left Salt Lake's overall record at 2-2.

Salt Lake will travel to Arizona to play in a four-game tournament next weekend.Â

Salt Lake 7, South Mountain 4: A walk-off grand slam helped the Bruins earn a victory in the day's first game.

SLCC's
Jake Herman hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning, capping off a wild back-and-forth game. The Bruins and SMCC went into extra innings tied at 2-2, with
Dalton Hodge hitting an RBI double to bring the Bruins within a run in the eighth inning after SMCC had scored a pair of runs.Â

The Bruins opened the game with an early run, eventually battling to a 2-2 tie to go into extra innings.Â

Salt Lake 14, South Mountain 13: Power and well-timed hitting were the defining words in a nail-biting Salt Lake victory.

Cole Gambill and
Eli Norman both hit early three-run home runs, helping SLCC build a lead that grew as large as 10-0. However, SMCC responded with by cutting the deficit to 12-9 late in the game. After Salt Lake added two more runs, South Mountain cut the deficit to a run, with the bases loaded. Fortunately for SLCC, a groundout ended the game and preserved the doubleheader sweep.Â
