SLCC Men's Basketball signs European prospect Tom Mark

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 8, 2020) - The final pieces of the roster puzzle are still being assembled for the 2020-21 version of the Salt Lake Community College men's basketball program.

Thursday, SLCC coach Kyle Taylor announced the signing of Tom Mark, a forward from Belgium. Mark, who has been with SLCC for most of the fall semester, was recently cleared to play for the upcoming season. His most recent playing experience is with the Belgian U18 National Team.

Taylor said Mark's international experience will be a positive benefit to Salt Lake's roster.

"We are excited that Tom Mark is joining us at Salt Lake," he said. "Tom has tremendous versatility as a player and has a really bright future as well. Tom has great length and athleticism and can play multiple positions. As we watched the FIBA European Championships, Tom's defensive play-making was his most impressive attribute. He can block shots, rebound at a high level and disrupt with his perimeter defense. Tom can guard multiple positions and will be another weapon on that end of the floor. He is a hard worker who loves the game and is an improving offensive threat."

Mark led the FIBA U18 European Championships in shot blocking while playing for Belgium, also finishing the top-ten in both steals and defensive efficiency. He is the son of Tonny and Els Mark.

For his part, the Belgian native said the Bruins provided the perfect fit for him to continue his career.

"I signed with Salt Lake because they are one of the best junior colleges in the country," he said. "There are a lot of opportunities for me here at SLCC."

Salt Lake finished the 2019-20 season going 29-4 overall, posting a record of 12-0 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Bruins were slotted as the No. 4 overall seed in the NJCAA National Tournament, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
