Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 31, 2020) – The Salt Lake Community College baseball team started the season on the wrong side of a doubleheader sweep in St. George on Friday.
Facing off against Arizona-based South Mountain Community College, the Bruins fell 12-5 in game one and 10-7 in game two. The day's action levels SLCC's overall record at 0-2 to open the season.
Salt Lake will play another doubleheader with South Mountain Community College on Saturday, with the first game starting at 12:00 p.m. at Snow Canyon High School.
South Mountain 12, Salt Lake 5: A low-scoring game early turned into an offensive explosion for South Mountain late.
SMCC got on the board early in the game with a run in the second inning, holding onto a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning. However, South Mountain scored 8 runs in the top of the fifth inning to stretch the lead to 9-0.
SLCC responded in the inning, coming back with three runs thanks to a
Cole Gambill three-run triple. The Bruins posted two more runs in the game.
South Mountain 10, Salt Lake 7: An extra-inning affair ended in a heartbreaking Bruins loss.
SLCC started the game with an offensive flurry, taking a quick 3-0 lead thanks to a
Cole Gambill RBI double. Gambill hit another double an inning later as Salt Lake took a 5-0 lead. South Mountain tied the game from there, taking a 7-6 lead in the eighth inning.
A
Brody Colledge sacrifice-fly RBI tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, sending the game to extra innings. Unfortunately, SMCC posted three runs to take a commanding lead.
