TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 15, 2020) – Two weeks into league play and the Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team is tracking towards one of its preseason goals.
Â
The Bruins set several team goals early in the year, including contending in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, and the team is well on its way to that goal with a 3-0 start to league play in tow. Entering a matchup against USU Eastern, SLCC coach
Kyle Taylor noted how his team is continuing to prepare with intensity while enjoying their strong start.
"We're very pleased with where we are at after two weeks of SWAC play, but it is a long season and we have a long way to go," he said. "Every week is about continuing to learn, grow and get better. Last week was a lot of fun, but last week is over now."
Â
Salt Lake will certainly face one of its longtime rivals on Thursday, playing at USU Eastern. The Eagles have been through an up-and-down start to league play, falling to 0-2 after the first two weekends. USU Eastern will host Colorado Northwestern on Saturday.
Â
Taylor said USU Eastern provides several challenges that opponents must be aware of, in spite of their tough start to league play.
"USU Eastern is very tough, a good shooting team and well coached," he said. "It's a single game week for us with our bye on Saturday, so this week is all about preparation for USU Eastern and their very efficient ball screen motion. It's tough to guard and they run it really well with personnel that fits."
Â
The Bruins will play USU Eastern at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in Price. Salt Lake will return home on Thursday, Jan. 23 for a game against in-state rival Snow College.Â
