Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 31, 2019) - If August was any indication, the Salt Lake Community College volleyball program will be a formidable foe in the 2019 season.
SLCC earned a 3-1 victory over Treasure Valley Community College in a morning match (25-23, 25-20, 24-26, 25-22) and followed up with a 3-1 win over Western Wyoming Community College (25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 25-17). The victories push Salt Lake's overall record to 8-0 on the young season.
Salt Lake will play a home match on Wednesday evening against MSU West Plains before setting out next weekend for a tournament hosted by the College of Southern Idaho. The Bruins will play Laramie County Community College and Miami-Dade College Friday, with Saturday action against Treasure Valley Community College and Casper College.
Salt Lake 3, Treasure Valley 1:Â The Bruins utilized a strong overall attack to power to the morning win over Treasure Valley.Â
Against a scrappy TVCC squad, SLCC utilized a big advantage at the net (a 54-45 kill advantage) to earn the win. A Treasure Valley attack error gave Salt Lake the first set victory, a lead which SLCC pushed to 2-0 after a strong second set. The Bruins held a 23-22 lead in the third set and tied the match at 24-24 late before the Chukars earned the set victory. However, Salt Lake earned a fourth-set victory on a
Gwen Russell kill that clinched the match.
Ariane Pola led Salt Lake with a team-high 16 kills, followed by Russell's 11 kills and
Kenadee Christensen's 10 kills.
Sidney Frith led the team with 22 assists and Russell also contributed 5 aces in the win.Â
Salt Lake 3, Western Wyoming 1:Â A regional battle ended with SLCCÂ narrowly maintaining momentum throughout the match in a win over Western Wyoming.Â
SLCC powered to a first-set victory with control but faced trouble in the second set. Tied at 21-21, WWCC closed on a 4-1 run to earn the victory. The Bruins battled back to take the third set, winning the last two points of the set after being tied 23-23.
Kaitlynn Bradley finished the match with 11 kills, while Pola and Russell both finished with 10 kills apiece.Â
