SLCC Basketball signs Sedrick Hammond

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (July 1, 2019) - Highly-regarded point guard Sedrick Hammond has committed to play for the Salt Lake Community College men's basketball program next season, as announced by Bruins coach Kyle Taylor.

Hammond, who most recently played for Faith Lutheran High School on the west side of the Las Vegas Valley, will become the program's third signing in the Taylor era. A prospect who was recruited by several NCAA Division-I programs, Hammond also played in Southern California at Cathedral during his high school career, averaging 11.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists in his prep career.

Taylor said the signing of the southern Nevada prospect is important for the program's trajectory.

"We are thrilled to welcome Sedrick Hammond to the Bruin basketball family," he said. "Sedrick is an extremely gifted guard who can score at multiple levels, defend well on the ball and brings great length to our perimeter. He has been well coached at both the high school and AAU level, so brings a great basketball pedigree to the floor. He was a highly sought after player by both Division I programs and other NJCAA schools, and we are grateful that he's trusting these next two years to us."

After playing for several programs around the country, Hammond said he is thrilled to begin his collegiate career with the Bruins in Salt Lake.

"I feel Salt Lake is the best place for me to get to the next level as a student-athlete," he said.

Salt Lake finished the 2018-19 season with a 20-9 record and a mark of 7-5 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference. The Bruins have won two national championships (2009 and 2016) and have won at least 20-games for 17 consecutive seasons.
