Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 9, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College baseball team established early momentum in a dominating win over the College of Southern Idaho on Thursday in the Region 18 tournament opener.
The Bruins, coming off two-straight losses on CSN's Morse Stadium field last weekend, earned a 9-1 win over the Golden Eagles to advance to the Region 18 semifinals on Friday. Salt Lake posted six runs in the sixth inning, taking final control of a game they never trailed.
SLCC got on the board early with a run in the first inning on a
Josh Cowden RBI double. The Bruins would score single runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 3-0 lead entering the sixth inning. Salt Lake's
Tyler Dean hit a two-RBI double in the inning to help power a six-run inning for the Bruins.
Breck Eichelberger, an All-Region 18 pitching selection for Salt Lake, earned the pitching win with a complete-game gem. Eichelberger threw seven innings of three-hit ball, striking out three CSI batters while allowing no extra-base hits. Cowden led the team offensively with a 4-of-4 performance at the plate, finishing with a pair of RBI's. Dean went 2-of-3.Â
Salt Lake will match up once again with Southern Nevada in a Region 18 semifinal on Friday. The semifinal game will start at 12:00 p.m. at Morse Stadium in Henderson, with the winner advancing to Saturday's championship game.Â
