Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 19, 2019) - The No. 17 Salt Lake Community College baseball team understands its lead in the Scenic West Athletic Conference is mere percentage points.
How else could you explain the team's rallying cry of playing with urgency, an effort that was visible in Friday's doubleheader at Cate Field in West Jordan against in-state rival USU Eastern. Salt Lake's urgency was showcased in a doubleheader sweep of the Eagles with a 9-2 victory in game one and an 8-6 victory in game two. The wins boost Salt Lake's overall record to 32-8 and their record in the Scenic West Athletic Conference to 21-4.
The Bruins and Eagles will play another doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. This will be the last home games of the regular season for Salt Lake.
Salt Lake 9, USU Eastern 2: A fast start at the plate carried the Bruins to the victory in the day's first game.
Tyler Dean's sacrifice-fly RBI in the first inning started a strong day for SLCC offensively, an advantage that stayed narrow until
Tanner Argyle's two-run home run in the sixth inning gave the team a 3-1 lead. USU Eastern's pitching eventually walked the bases full in the inning, leading to Salt Lake walking home two runs to take a 5-1 lead.Â

Tyler Dean. Dean hit a grand-slam home run to take the SLCC advantage to 9-1, effectively powering them to an insurmountable lead. Dean finished the day going 1-of-3 at the plate with 5 RBI's. Both
Alex Bumpus and
Cole Gambill finished 2-of-3.Â
Breck Eichelberger earned the complete victory for Salt Lake, allowing just one run and five hits in seven innings of work. He also struck out three USU Eastern batters.
Salt Lake 8, USU Eastern 6: A slow-start for the Bruins turned into a key win for Salt Lake as they continue their season-long trend of finishing close games.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead after the third inning, utilizing consistent hitting to take the early lead.
Cole Gambill helped Salt Lake get on the board in the third inning, scoring
Gabe Singer to cut the deficit to 3-1. Salt Lake did most of its damage in the fifth inning thanks to extra-base hits as Gambill hit an RBI double to tie the score at 4-4.
Alex Bumpus would also hit an RBI double and SLCC scored two other runs on errors.

Cal Beardsley earned the pitching victory, throwing five innings of three-run ball. SLCC's other pitchers allowed just two runs and
