No. 11 SLCC Baseball earns split at Southern Idaho

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 13, 2019) - The No. 11 Salt Lake Community College baseball team suffered another tough day Saturday, falling in a doubleheader with the College of Southern Idaho.

The Bruins were downed late again, 2-1, in game one on a walk-off hit before earning a resounding 10-3 victory in game two. The losses drops Salt Lake to 30-8 and 19-4 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference. 

The Bruins will host in-state rival USU Eastern in a four-game series next weekend at Cate Field in West Jordan. The two teams will play doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday. Live stats will be available at www.slccbruins.com.

Southern Idaho 2, Salt Lake 1: Another walk-off hit sent Salt Lake to its third consecutive loss in the series.

Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, CSI earned its second walk-off win in as many days to down the Bruins. In a back-and-forth game that featured several outstanding defensive plays and pitching performances, it was Southern Idaho who took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Salt Lake responded by scoring a run in the fourth inning to tie the score, thanks to Cole Gambill scoring on a Josh Cowden single.

Cowden and Gabe Singer both went 2-of-3 for Salt Lake at the plate, part of the team's seven hits. Jake Wilson earned the pitching loss, throwing 6.2 innings of two-run ball. 

Salt Lake 10, Southern Idaho 3: A sustained effort lifted Salt Lake to the win in the series finale.

The Bruins took an early 1-0 lead, thanks to a Josh Cowden RBI single that scored Alex Bumpus, and then added two more runs in the third inning on a Brody Colledge double. A Cowden double in the fourth inning scored Tyler Dean and Cole Gambill hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to extend the sustained Salt Lake rally. Tanner Argyle had a two-RBI in the ninth inning.

SLCC pitcher Jake Dygert earned the victory for Salt Lake.
