Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 31, 2019) - The No. 17 Salt Lake Community College baseball team has looked the part of a serious contender for weeks.
If anything, this weekend's performance against the No. 3 College of Southern Nevada program showcased how serious SLCC is as the Bruins finished a Sunday doubleheader with a sweep. Salt Lake captured a 4-2 victory in game one and then powered for a 6-1 win in game two. The day's results put Salt Lake's overall record at 25-5 and a 14-1 record in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
SLCC will host a four-game series with Colorado Northwestern Community College next weekend at Cate Field in West Jordan. The Bruins and Spartans are scheduled to play doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
Salt Lake 4, Southern Nevada 2: A strong inning powered Salt Lake to the strong victory.
With Southern Nevada holding a 1-0 lead entering the bottom of the third inning, the Bruins responded by scoring to take a 4-1 lead they would never relinquish. With the Coyotes repeatedly putting pressure on Salt Lake, pitching became a means of survival for SLCC and
Jake Wilson posted one of his best outings of the year by throwing a complete game that featured him allowing ten hits but just two earned runs. Wilson struck out two batters.
No Salt Lake player had a multi-hit game.
Cole Gambill and
Josh Cowden both went 1-of-3 with an RBI. Wilson earned the pitching victory.

Salt Lake took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning as
Cole Gambill scored the game's first run, then
Colton Moore scored on a
Jaxson Otis RBI bunt single as the Bruins took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning. SLCC added to the lead by scoring runs in the sixth and seventh innings, with
Colton Moore hitting a two-RBI single in the eighth inning.
Moore finished 3-of-4 at the plate with 2 RBI's, with Otis also going 2-of-4.
Tyler Dean finished 2-of-3.
Cal Beardsley earned the pitching win by throwing five innings of one-run ball while striking out five Coyotes.
Bradley Morgan pitched a four-inning save, allowing just three hits.
