No. 18 SLCC Baseball rolls to doubleheader sweep of ISU club team

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 22, 2019) - An off-week in the Scenic West Athletic Conference could have been viewed as a chance for the No. 18 Salt Lake Community College baseball team to recharge.

Instead, the Bruins kept their foot on the figurative gas pedal and rolled to an impressive doubleheader sweep of the Idaho State University club team, earning 17-1 and 21-1 victories. The wins pushed Salt Lake's overall record to 20-4.

SLCC will host another doubleheader with the Bengals on Saturday. The day's first game will start at 12:00 p.m. at Cate Field in West Jordan.

Salt Lake 17, Idaho State 1: A consistent display of offense lifted SLCC to the game-one victory.

The Bruins posted eight runs in the third inning, leaving no doubt in a game they already controlled handily. SLCC held a 1-0 lead after the first inning and a 5-0 lead after the second inning. An Alex Bumpus triple keyed the rally in the second inning. A complete display of offense came in the third inning as Jace Shepherd's three-run RBI double helped push Salt Lake to the big lead.

SLCC pitcher Breck Eichelberger surrendered a run in the first inning before steaming to the victory. Trevor Hoffman closed out the game for the Bruins. Otis went 2-of-4 at the plate with 3 RBI's. Tanner Argyle went 3-of-4 at the plate.

Salt Lake 21, Idaho State 1: Another offensive outburst led to Salt Lake's dominant victory.

The Bruins scored 11 runs in the second inning to clinch a decisive victory. A Cole Gambill RBI triple got the Bruins on the board in the first inning, only to see Salt Lake's Josh Cowden follow that up with a two-run RBI triple to take a 5-0 lead heading into the decisive second inning. Cowden finished 2-of-4 at the plate in the game with 4 RBI's.

Jake Dygert earned the pitching victory for Salt Lake, throwing four scoreless innings while striking out three strikeouts. Fisher Anderson and Cody Riddle also pitched in the win.
