Another doubleheader sweep lifts SLCC Baseball to 9-0 in Scenic West

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 15, 2019) -  Baseball is a funny sport in how it ebbs-and-flows.

Take the Salt Lake Community College baseball team; the Bruins started the season at 0-4 after falling to South Mountain Community College, starting slow at the plate and on the mound. Those late January games seem like an incredibly distant memory now as Salt Lake has now won 16 games in a row, powering to a 9-0 start to the Scenic West Athletic Conference season.

The Bruins swept USU Eastern in a Scenic West doubleheader Friday, powering to 5-3 and 9-5 wins in Price. Salt Lake utilized timely hitting to earn the wins, with a Brody Colledge home run in the first game leading SLCC to an impressive victory.

Salt Lake and the Eagles will play two more games on Saturday in Price, with doubleheader action scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. The Bruins will host Idaho State University's club team next weekend at Cate Field in West Jordan.

Salt Lake 5, USU Eastern 3: The Bruins hopped on the Eagles early, scoring two runs to claim an early advantage.

A Cole Gambill RBI scored Jaxson Otis on a fielder's choice, giving SLCC an early lead in the first inning. Tyler Dean's RBI single later in the inning propelled Salt Lake to the 2-0 lead. Still holding a 2-0 lead later in the middle innings, Colledge jumped on a ball over the plate and hit a solo-shot to left-center field to give boost SLCC's lead to 3-0.

Errors affected both teams midway through the game as errors by the Bruins allowed USU Eastern to tie the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning. Conversely, a series of USU Eastern errors allowed Salt Lake to earn two runs to take a 5-3 lead late. Breck Eichelberger earned the complete-game pitching victory.

Salt Lake 9, USU Eastern 5: A five-run fifth inning powered Salt Lake to the victory and the doubleheader sweep.

Tanner Argyle's two-run single helped Salt Lake take an early 5-0 lead, a lead that was needed as SLCC surrendered four runs the following inning on errors. Tyler Dean's double later in the game put the advantage out-of-reach for USU Eastern.
