SLCC Baseball takes 14-game winning streak into USU Eastern series

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 14, 2019) - Momentum is a fickle thing in sports, something the Salt Lake Community College baseball team knows well.

Riding a 14-game winning streak, the Bruins have every possible way since they started the season 0-4: with power, with pitching, with defense, with heroism and with energy. Sitting with a 7-0 record in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, Salt Lake is attempting to continue building on its momentum as they enter a four-game series with in-state rival USU Eastern this Friday.

Bruins coach D.G. Nelson said his team has an excellent chance to continue improving as they play this weekend's series.

"The guys are learning to compete with the expectations that our program has to win," he said. "This group is learning to play the game right and consistently. We have a long way to go but we're well on our way."

SLCC is at the top of the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings with a 7-0 record, with Southern Nevada also holding an undefeated 4-0 record. Their opponent this weekend, USU Eastern, has yet to play a league game after their opening series against Colorado Northwestern was canceled last weekend due to poor weather. Surprisingly, defending Region 18 champion Southern Idaho is 0-7 in league play.

Salt Lake's four-game series with USU Eastern will start on Friday with a doubleheader that begins at 1:00 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 12:00 p.m.
