TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 28, 2019) - Just as warm weather has changed the outlook around the Wasatch Front, a string of victories has changed the outlook of the season for the Salt Lake Community College baseball team.
After starting the season at 0-4, the Bruins have now rattled off seven-straight victories that include offensively dominating a four-game series with Treasure Valley Community College last weekend. SLCC is scheduled to face off against Colorado Northwestern to begin the league season this week, a four-game series that will be played Friday and Saturday in Grand Junction due to weather concerns.
Entering the league-opening series. Salt Lake coach D.G. Nelson said his team is excited to continue to progress.
"We have a long way to go but we're showing improvement every time out," he said. "The group is working hard and really coming together."
The Bruins were noted for their improvement with a pair of honors from the Scenic West Athletic Conference as
Jaxson Otis earned Player-of-the-Week and
Breck Eichelberger earned Pitcher-of-the-Week. Otis went 8-of-18 on the season with 10 RBI's, while Eichelberger struck out 10 TVCC batters.
In review, CNCC went 2-10 overall in the preseason. Southern Nevada went a league-best 16-4 in preseason competition.
Nelson said the combination of improving health and winning should help his team.
"We're still not all healthy but getting there," he said. "We're looking forward to the beginning of conference play this week."
The SLCC-CNCC series will start with two games on Friday and two games on Saturday.
