Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 22, 2019) - It was a successful day for the Salt Lake Community College baseball program Friday, with the Bruins enjoying a rare sunny day in late winter.
Playing for the first time this spring at Cate Field, Salt Lake powered to a doubleheader sweep of Treasure Valley Community College, earning victories of 9-0 and 12-2. The victories move SLCC's overall record to 5-4 overall. The Bruins are on a five-game winning streak.
Salt Lake will play another doubleheader against Treasure Valley on Saturday at Cate Field in West Jordan. The games will start at 12:00 p.m.
Salt Lake 9, Treasure Valley 0: A strong offensive performance boosted SLCC to the win in the day's first game.
SLCC took an early 1-0 lead with
Jaxson Otis scoring on an error.
Tyler Dean scored a run for the Bruins in the second inning, with Salt Lake picking up three runs in the fourth inning thanks to an Otis two-out single that scored two.
The advantage grew in the sixth inning with
Brady Brook's RBI double. Otis scored later in the inning, with
Cole Gambill grounding out for a sacrifice RBI.
Brody Colledge had an RBI single in the seventh inning. Otis went 3-of-4 at the plate with three singles.
Breck Eichelberger picked up the win for Salt Lake on the mound, throwing six innings of one-hit, scoreless ball with 11 strikeouts.
Trevor Hoffman finished the game with three innings of perfect ball, striking out two Chukars.
Salt Lake 12, Treasure Valley 2: Another dominant performance at the plate lifted the Bruins to a victory.
Brody Colledge's line-drive single in the second inning gave Salt Lake a 2-0 lead, a lead they would build on throughout the game. SLCC would score in six consecutive innings in the game, with the Bruins posting six runs in the fifth inning. It started with a
Ryen Edwards RBI double that scored
Tyler Dean, with Edwards scoring later on a walk.
Brady Brook's RBI single capped off the inning.
It was another dominant pitching performance for Salt Lake, with
Jake Wilson hurling six scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Colledge went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI's. Otis posted three RBI's in the game.
