No. 13 SLCC Men's Basketball to host Region 9/18 Challenge tourney

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 7, 2019) - The No. 13 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season the way it hoped to, finishing with a successful weekend in Arizona.

The Bruins will have another chance to prove themselves this weekend in a series of matchups with strong regional competition as they host the Region 9/18 Challenge tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Lifetime Activities Center. SLCC will face off against Casper College at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Western Nebraska at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Salt Lake coach Kyle Taylor said his team is looking forward to hosting strong regional competition this weekend on the Wasatch Front.

"The Region 9/18 Challenge is a great event and I'm excited to play in it and for us to be able to host this year," he said. "This is a big week for our young team. Every game is important in college basketball but when you have a chance to play two really good teams at home, it becomes an extra important weekend."

Casper College opened the season with a 2-0 record, thanks to wins over Trinidad State and Air Force Prep. Western Nebraska had a split 1-1 record in the Western Wyoming Classic last weekend, losing to host Western Wyoming while earning a 100-86 win over Central Wyoming.

Salt Lake's next home games after this weekend are scheduled for Nov. 21 against Eastern Wyoming College. The team's Scenic West Athletic Conference opener is scheduled for January 4 against Colorado Northwestern Community College.
