Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 26, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College baseball team was swept in a Saturday doubleheader with South Mountain Community College.
Playing in St. George at Snow Canyon High School, the Bruins fell to SMCC by scores of 13-6 and 7-3. Salt Lake's overall record after the first weekend of play is 0-4.
The Bruins will play next in their traditional Valentine's Day matchup with the Prairie Baseball Academy on February 14, with games against the Utah State University club program the following two days.
South Mountain 13, Salt Lake 6: South Mountain took an early lead, establishing control in the day's first game.
SMCC held a 5-0 lead after the first inning, with the Cougars stretching the lead to 6-0 after the third inning. Salt Lake got on the board in the fifth inning, with
Tyler Dean hitting a two-RBI double to cut the deficit to 8-3. However, SMCC came back with four runs to end the hopes of a comeback.Â
Dean finished with four RBI's, hitting another two-RBI double in the seventh inning.Â
South Mountain 7, Salt Lake 3: In a pattern that continued throughout the series, South Mountain took a 3-0 lead early in the game and powered to the victory.
Salt Lake loaded the bases in the first inning but was unable to score a run. The Bruins finally picked up runs in the seventh inning, with
Tyler Dean getting an RBI walk and Carson Farnsworth picking up a sacrifice-fly RBI.Â
