SLCC Baseball loses season-opening doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 25, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College baseball program didn't have the season-opening doubleheader they were hoping for, falling in two games to South Mountain Community College Friday.

Playing at Snow Canyon High School in St. George, the Bruins fell to South Mountain 11-3 in game one and 12-3 in game two. The games are part of a four-game series in St. George for the Bruins this weekend.

Salt Lake and South Mountain will play two more games on Saturday, with game one starting at 12:00 p.m.

South Mountain 11, Salt Lake 3: A strong offensive performance lifted South Mountain to the victory.

With Cal Beardsley on the mound to start the game for the Bruins, Salt Lake powered to a 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning after scoring on a Carson Farnsworth sac-fly RBI. The Bruins posted two more runs in the second inning, but SMCC countered to take a 5-3 run midway through the third inning. South Mountain posted four runs in the fifth inning.

Salt Lake finished with four hits in the game.

South Mountain 12, Salt Lake 3: A six-run fourth inning powered South Mountain to the doubleheader sweep.

Tied 2-2 after the third inning, South Mountain scored six runs to take an 8-3 lead after the inning; a lead they would never relinquish. SMCC posted eight hits in the game but five SLCC errors proved to be the undoing for the Bruins.
