TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 23, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College baseball program will open its 2019 season in its traditional form this weekend, playing a four-game series in southern Utah.
The Bruins will host South Mountain Community College Friday and Saturday at Snow Canyon High School in St. George, playing doubleheaders both days. SLCC is coming off a 2018 season that saw them finish at 36-17 and 21-10 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference. Salt Lake played into the Western District championships, falling to SWAC champion Southern Idaho.
Salt Lake returns a number of contributors from the successful 2018 team, including sophomores
Brady Brook,
Jaxson Otis and
Fynn Chester. The Bruins had several long winning streaks in league play last season, with the program boasting win streaks of eight wins and seven wins respectively.
After playing this weekend's season-opening series, Salt Lake will return home to West Jordan's Cate Field on Valentine's Day for its annual game against the Prairie Baseball Academy, followed up by doubleheaders against the Utah State University Club team on Feb. 15-16. SLCC will open Scenic West play on March 1 at Colorado Northwestern Community College.
D.G. Nelson will return for his 16th season as the program's head coach, having led the team to 526 wins in his tenure.Â
