Bruins Women's Soccer enthused with upward trajectory

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 28, 2018) - A 2-0 record has the Salt Lake Community College women's soccer program feeling all sorts of emotions.

Excited, yes; confident, assuredly; complacent, not at all. With a strong weekend behind them, the Bruins are excited by the prospects of hosting three more non-conference matches at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. However, Salt Lake also knows that the number and frequency of matches this week will be a strong test of its abilities and focus, as the Bruins start of a three-match week with a contest against Utah Valley University's club program today at 3:00 p.m. SLCC will also play two matches this weekend.

The upcoming games will be a good test for a young but confident Salt Lake program, Bruins coach Mark Davis said.

"While we are excited by our strong start to the season, our program understands that this week will be an important benchmark in where we're at as a team," he said. "We will have to be focused on details, conditioning and maximizing opportunities in a week like this. It should be a great preparation for our league season."

Salt Lake will host Trinidad State College at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, and will play Sheridan College at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. While the Bruins were previously scheduled to play Colorado Northwestern the following weekend to open the season, the Spartans abruptly dropped their program, meaning SLCC will have a bye until a Sept. 14 match with USU Eastern.

Davis said it's important for his team to use every competitive opportunity this week to improve.

"Our number of games has fallen and we will now start our conference season a week later, after a long layoff," he said. "It will be imperative that we get our team as much experience as possible in these three matches."
