TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 3, 2018) - The smell of the postseason is getting stronger for the Salt Lake Community College baseball program.
After an up-and-down start to the season, the Bruins are on a roll in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, having won their last four series against league opponents. Salt Lake is up to second in the league standings, sitting with a record of 18-10 to sit four games behind Southern Idaho. The Bruins are primed for a strong run into next week's Region 18 tournament, but first comes the final series of the regular-season against Colorado Northwestern.
Salt Lake swept Colorado Northwestern in a series that took place earlier this season in Salt Lake, with SLCC earning run-rule victories in two separate games. Now the Bruins head on the road to Rangely, where the home-standing Spartans are 6-43 on the season and 2-25 in league standings. While Salt Lake leads the league in batting average (.306), CNCC is last at .197. The Spartans are also last in ERA, with the pitching staff allowing 7.61 runs per game.Â
The two programs will play a four-game series, featuring doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday. Salt Lake will learn its destination for the Region 18 tournament on Sunday, with it being likely SWAC-leader Southern Idaho. CSI has a four-game leader over Salt Lake in the league standings, sitting at 22-6.
