TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 18, 2018) - The Salt Lake Community College baseball program knew that all good things would eventually end, but the Bruins weren't good with how it ended.
After winning Thursday's District One championships opener, the Bruins hoped they would push forward deep in the tournament, eventually hoping to earn the coveted spot in the NJCAA College World Series. Leading Southern Idaho early in a winners' bracket game Friday, it appeared Salt Lake was well on its way. Instead, SLCC fell to Southern Idaho in a tough battle, 10-7, before eventually falling to Arizona Western in an elimination game, 10-0.
Salt Lake ends the season with a record of 36-18.
Southern Idaho 10, Salt Lake 7: An early lead for SLCC didn't hold up, with the home-hosting Golden Eagles powering to a late victory over Salt Lake.
The Bruins led 3-0 early, eventually stretching the lead to 6-1 in the top of the sixth inning. Salt Lake utilized the long-ball in the buildup, with
Brady Brook and
Nick Seginowich both hitting home runs to boost the advantage. However, CSI scored six runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to tie the game, with a three-run RBI double giving CSI the advantage.Â
Seginowich went 2-of-4 at the plate, with three other Bruins also equaling the mark. Brook and
Jaxson Otis led Salt Lake with a pair of RBI's.Â
Parker Hall earned a no-decision in a start for Salt Lake.
Jayden Hartle was awarded the loss, surrendering six runs in 1.1 innings of work.Â
Arizona Western 10, Salt Lake 0: Arizona Western scored early and often, earning a run-rule victory in the fifth inning.
Salt Lake surrendered 10 base hits, picking up only 3 hits in response.
Tyler Dean went 2-of-2 at the plate, as SLCCÂ had just 7 baserunners in the entire game.
Cal Beardsley started the game for the Bruins, pitching 1.1 innings and surrendering two runs before leaving the contest.Â
