Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 11, 2018) - Revenge is a dish that is best served cold, and the Salt Lake Community College baseball program found out how true that statement is Friday evening.
Facing the College of Southern Nevada in an elimination game, the Bruins had to hang on early in a cold evening game against the Coyotes, with the winner advancing to play the College of Southern Idaho in Saturday's Region 18 championship game. Salt Lake found a way to beat the cold and the Coyotes, powering to a 6-3 victory Friday evening. The win was backed by an earlier SLCC win over USU Eastern in a losers' bracket game Friday afternoon.
Southern Nevada took an early 1-0 lead before Salt Lake tied the score in the fourth inning, with
Jaxson Otis scoring on a
Damian Henderson RBI single. The Bruins took the lead for good in the sixth inning, scoring two runs in an offensive rally that was carried by a Henderson double.Â
Salt Lake scored three runs in the visiting half of the ninth inning, with doubles by
Brady Brook and
Payton Freeman carrying the Bruins to victory. SLCC pitcher
Jayden Hartle surrendered two runs in the bottom of the ninth but closed out the rest of the side, earning the victory as Salt Lake advanced on.
The Bruins and Southern Idaho will play at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Salt Lake will have to beat the Golden Eagles twice to earn the Region 18 crown.
Salt Lake 5, USU Eastern 3: SLCC downed its in-state rival in an elimination game in the Region 18 tourney.
Salt Lake took an early lead, keyed by a
Jaxson Otis double that scored two runs, with SLCCÂ leading 3-0 after the second inning. While USU Eastern made several comebacks, the Bruins were able to repeatedly fight off the attempts, with a
Brady Brook double setting the table for Otis to hit an RBI single that broke a 3-3 tie.

Ben Weese.Â
