Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 13, 2018) - Playing games on Friday the 13th will fill any coach with trepidation but sports like baseball breed that much more oddity.

The Salt Lake Community College baseball program traveled to play an in-state Scenic West Athletic Conference series against USU Eastern, with the Bruins riding high after moving to second place in the league standings. True to form, strange things happened as the Bruins lost game one on a walkoff, 10-9, before earning a victory in game two, 12-9.

Salt Lake will play USU Eastern in a doubleheader Saturday to conclude the series. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Price.

USU Eastern 10, Salt Lake 9: An early offensive lead did little to help Salt Lake, who fell late to a walk-off hit by USU Eastern.

With Salt Lake leading 9-7 entering the final inning, the Eagles scored three runs to earn the victory. The Bruins had led by as much as 9-5 in the middle of the game, after Damian Henderson and Payton Freeman had RBI singles. Henderson opened the game off the right way for the Bruins, hitting a three-run home run to give Salt Lake an early 3-0 lead. 

Nick Seginowich hit a double in the third inning, with two passed balls eventually scoring the sophomore catcher. Ben Weese started the game, earning a no-decision after Sterling Lay couldn't finish the save.

Salt Lake 12, USU Eastern 9: A pair of early home runs lifted Salt Lake to victory in game two.

Payton Freeman and Alex Johnson both hit solo home runs in the second inning, lifting Salt Lake to an early lead. While USU Eastern would counter back-and-forth, taking a 3-2 lead in the third, Salt Lake countered for six runs in the fourth inning to reestablish the lead. Freeman finished 3-for-4, while Johnson went 2-of-4.

The Bruins finished with 12 hits in the game. Cal Beardsley earned the win, throwing 4.1 innings while surrendering four runs.
