TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 11, 2018) - The Salt Lake Community College Bruins baseball program is pushing forward into a good place.

After an up-and-down start to the Scenic West Athletic Conference portion of the schedule, the Bruins have gone 7-1 over their last two series, taking 3-of-4 games from SWAC leader Southern Idaho last weekend. With Salt Lake now sitting in second place in the league standings, the Bruins travel to play third-place team USU Eastern in a five-game road swing starting Friday.

It will be an unusual series against the Eagles as Salt Lake's first four games against USU Eastern will count towards league standings while a standalone game on April 24 will not count towards league standings. Regardless, the Eagles will present a stern challenge to the Bruins with their 20-18 record overall but a 12-9 league record.

Reflecting last weekend's league success, Salt Lake has a record of 12-8 in league play - just two games behind league-leader Southern Idaho. The Bruins won't play CSI again in the regular season.

Last weekend's offensive success lifted SLCC's season batting average to .284, while the ERA fell to 4.26. The Bruins continue to place second in the league's fielding average, sitting at .957. Salt Lake's Jaxson Otis leads the Bruins with a batting average of .297, with Nick Seginowich leading with 7 home runs. Bruin pitcher Ben Weese, who leads SLCC with a 6-1 record, has a team-leading ERA of 3.65. 

Friday's doubleheader at USU Eastern will start at 1:00 p.m. in Price, with game two immediately after the conclusion of the first contest. The in-state rivals will battle at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
