Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 30, 2018) - There's no place like home to help a team and the Salt Lake Community College baseball program proved that Friday.
Coming off a tough road trip to play the College of Southern Nevada, the Bruins responded in fine-form with a doubleheader sweep of Colorado Northwestern Community College, earning 4-3 and () victories on the day to move to 8-7 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings. Salt Lake's overall record now sits at 17-11.
Salt Lake will host Colorado Northwestern for two more league games Saturday, with the first pitch of the doubleheader coming at 12:00 p.m. at Cate Field in West Jordan.
Salt Lake 4, Colorado Northwestern 3: The Bruins earned a close victory, downing the CNCC Spartans thanks to a critical scoring rally late in the game.
Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Salt Lake had the bases loaded with one-out in the inning as
Damian Henderson had an RBI on a fielder's choice that scored
Brady Brook to break the tie. Brook had walked to open the inning.
Salt Lake took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after a
Payton Freeman RBI double that scored Henderson. The Bruins led 2-0 after the third inning, eventually holding on for the win.
Ben Weese earned the victory on the mound for the Bruins, throwing six innings of three-run ball that featured the surrender of just one earned run. Freeman finished the game 2-of-4 with the aforementioned RBI double.Â
Salt Lake 10, Colorado Northwestern 0: Salt Lake hopped on Colorado Northwestern early, rolling to a big win.
Jaxson Otis hit an RBI double in the second inning as SLCC took an early 2-0 lead. Otis's second RBI double in the fourth inning scored
Quinn Ayers to give the Bruins a 4-0 lead. Salt Lake picked up ten hits off the Spartans.
Otis went 4-for-4 in the game, ending with two RBIs.Â
Brady Brook went 2-of-4 in the game, finishing with a pair of RBI's. Ayers scored a pair of runs in the game.
Jacob Stauffer started the game for Salt Lake, pitching for 4.2 inning.
Jayden Hartle earned the win, pitching a clean 1.1 innings.Â
