Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 24, 2018) - After a tough haul that featured numerous bad breaks, the Salt Lake Community College baseball program was due for something good to happen.
Having lost the first three games of their series at No. 4 College of Southern Nevada, the Bruins managed to earn a split in Saturday's doubleheader, finishing with an 11-3 victory in game two to make up for a walk-off 4-3 CSN win in game one. The Saturday split moved Salt Lake to 16-11 overall and 4-7 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.Â
The Bruins will host Colorado Northwestern Friday and Saturday in SWAC doubleheaders at Cate Field. Friday's games will start at 1:00 p.m.Â
Southern Nevada 4, Salt Lake 3: A walk-off home run lifted the Southern Nevada Coyotes to a game one victory, ending a pitchers' duel in the desert.
CSN's Justin Lutes turned on a 0-2 pitch and lifted it out in left field, lifting the Coyotes to their third-straight victory in the four-game series. Southern Nevada led 3-0 early before the Bruins tied the game in the fifth inning on a two-run
Payton Freeman home run to left field.
Tyler Dean got SLCC on the board in the fourth inning with a RBI single to score Freeman.
Freeman finished 2-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored in the game. Freeman's two hits were a triple and a home run.
Jesse Parker took the loss on the mound for the Bruins.
Salt Lake 11, Southern Nevada 3: Salt Lake scored the last eight runs of the game, walking away with the victory in the series finale.
Domenick Fuller hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to give Salt Lake a 3-0 lead, with CSN countering immediately to tie the game. However,
Nick Seginowich hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to give the Bruins the lead for good.
Fuller finished the game going 3-of-3 for the Bruins, while Seginowich and
Jaxson Otis went 2-of-5. The Bruins managed a series-high 14 hits in the game.
Jason James earned the victory on the mound for SLCC, surrendering three runs in four innings of work.Â
