Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 8, 2018) - As the days of February roll by, college basketball teams understand that the time to play their best basketball is in front of them. Thankfully someone told the No. 7 Salt Lake Community College Bruins that news early in the process.
The Bruins, who've moved to a 21-4 overall record and 7-1 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, have continued to improve throughout the year, in spite of numerous challenges that have been tossed their way. Salt Lake traveled to Rangely, Colorado Thursday for a road game against Colorado Northwestern. After easily downing the Spartans last month in Taylorsville, it would've been easy for Salt Lake to react to the challenge of CNCC differently.Â
Fortunately, the Bruins understand now is the time to be playing their best, a mindset that was reflected in SLCC's controlling 85-45 road victory. Salt Lake limited CNCC to an 0-for-10 performance from the field in the second quarter, as the Bruins held a 39-14 halftime lead.
The start of the game wasn't seamless for Salt Lake, as CNCC trailed just 19-12 at the end of the first period. Defense has always been a key for the Bruins and it was in the second quarter, as Salt Lake limited the Spartans to just two points on two made free-throws. SLCC led 64-29 after the third quarter.
Thursday was a night of notable offensive achievement for several Salt Lake players, including guard
Tia Hay. Hay finished with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, with Jamaica Martin also contributing 12 points for Salt Lake.
Ariel Miller registered a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Bruins.Â
