Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 3, 2018) - There is a reason why road games are considered such a grind.
The travel is long and arduous; the inconsistency in routine is upsetting; and the hostility of a visiting crowd can be unnerving. The No. 4 Salt Lake Community College Bruins know what life on the road is like, especially after falling to in-state rival USU Eastern. The Bruins came back with a thrilling victory over Southern Idaho Thursday, with the prospects of another tough in-state game Saturday at Snow College.
Luckily for Salt Lake, the road has a way of creating a kinship that can cause a team to react positively to adversity. The adversity of a narrow 43-40 SLCC halftime lead didn't faze the Bruins, as Salt Lake powered to an 84-73 road win over the Badgers.
The Bruins looked road-weary early in the game, with Snow College shooting 55.2 percent (16-of-29) at halftime. However, Salt Lake clamped down in the second half, earning a 41-33 advantage in the period thanks to holding the Badgers to 37.5 percent shooting (12-of-32).Â
"We really guarded in the second half," SLCC coach
Todd Phillips said. "We made them take some tough shots and we played together. We were battling some fatigue from Thursday but we responded well."
Salt Lake's physicality played a large role in the victory, with the Bruins winning at the free-throw line with a 26-of-33 performance. Salt Lake also scored 28 points-in-the-paint.
Bushmen Ebet led the scoring for Salt Lake, finishing with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
Alec Monson finished with 15 points, while
Jakoby Kemp and
Kur Kuath both had 14 points.
Dalven Brushier finished with 12 points.
Salt Lake will play one more road game on this swing, as the Bruins take on Colorado Northwestern Thursday. SLCC will play its next home game on Feb. 10, hosting Snow.Â
