Salt Lake splits Friday doubleheader in Vegas

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 23, 2018) - The Salt Lake Community College Bruins split a Friday doubleheader in Las Vegas, opening the day with a win before falling in a heartbreaking loss.

The Bruins opened the day with a 3-2 win over Prairie Baseball Academy, stretching their winning streak to a season-long eight games, before falling back to host College of Southern Nevada, 1-0, in an extra-innings marathon.

Salt Lake opens league play on Friday, March 3, with a doubleheader at College of Southern Idaho.

Salt Lake 3, Prairie Baseball Academy 2: Tied at 1-1 going into the seventh inning, Salt Lake scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a lead it would never relinquish. 

The Bruins' Jason James closed out the game with a five-inning pitching performance that featured seven strikeouts. Salt Lake's Paxton Freeman finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. 

Salt Lake had three two-out hits in the eighth inning to score the game-winning runs.

Southern Nevada 1, Salt Lake 0 (12): A marathon game ended with a bitter loss for the Bruins.

CSN's AJ Amelburu had an RBI in the bottom of the 12th inning, powering Southern Nevada to the win. Salt Lake had multiple opportunities in the game, including many chances in the ninth inning. However, Salt Lake was never able to string hits together, finishing with four hits in the game.
