Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 15, 2018) - The No. 6 Salt Lake Community College Bruins knew a tall task laid ahead of them Thursday.
Facing a longtime Scenic West foe in Southern Idaho, the Bruins knew sweeping the season series against CSI would be a tough task, especially after Salt Lake took an overtime victory over the Eagles in their last meeting. The tall task proved its worth, as the Golden Eagles escaped Salt Lake with an 81-79 overtime victory.
In a game that went back-and-forth with seven lead changes, the Bruins led by as many as seven early, 21-14, before Southern Idaho fought back to take a 38-36 halftime lead. Salt Lake would trail by as many as eight, 64-56, midway through the second half before going on a run to eventually take a four-point lead, 72-68, with 1:26 remaining. Southern Idaho closed the half on a 4-0 run, sending the game to overtime.
Southern Idaho jumped out to an early lead in the overtime period, as CSI's Tommy Burton gave the Eagles a lead they would never relinquish in the period.
Several categories told the story of the game, with Salt Lake shooting just 65.4 percent from the free-throw line (17-of-26). The Bruins also made just 4-of-12 three-point attempts.
Christian Gray led the Bruins with 19 points, with
Kur Kuath finishing with a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Jakoby Kemp and
Josh Colon finished with 9 points apiece.
