Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 1, 2018) - The No. 4 Salt Lake Community College Bruins knew they would have their hands full in a road game against the College of Southern Idaho.
The two junior college powerhouses have been fierce competitors for decades inside the Scenic West Athletic Conference, with both prominently figuring into the race for the SWAC title this year. The Golden Eagles were also looking for retribution against Salt Lake after the Bruins earned an impressive home win over over them earlier this season. All of this came to head in what may be one of the best league games between the two foes, a double-overtime 103-99 Salt Lake victory.
Southern Idaho held a 42-37 halftime lead but the Bruins came charging back, with both teams making play-after-play to keep the standstill going. Eventually it was the Bruins who gained the upper hand and kept it late in the game, outscoring CSI 18-14 in the second overtime period. Salt Lake's physicality proved to make the ultimate difference in the game, with SLCC holding a 66-56 advantage in rebounds and a 34-26 edge in points-in-the-paint.
This is the second overtime victory of the league season for Salt Lake. The Bruins opened conference play with a triple-overtime road victory over USU Eastern.
Josh Colon led Salt Lake with 20 points, with
Bushmen Ebet contributing 17 points. Dalvin Brushier finished with 16 points,
Alec Monson had 11 points, and both
Christian Gray and
Jordan Gilliam ended with 14 points apiece for Salt Lake.
The Bruins will finish a two-game road swing through conference play Saturday, with in-state rival Snow College appearing on the schedule. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. tip and will be available on live.ksl.com.
