Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 30, 2018) - Heading into December, the No. 17 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team is definitely enjoying the holiday season.
The Bruins are playing well and moving forward as a team, overcoming disappointing moments by finding another level of success. SLCC powered to a 79-63 victory over Georgia Highlands Friday, pushing to a 9-2 overall record early in the season. The win came in a tournament hosted by Scenic West foe Southern Idaho.
"This game was a lot closer than the final score," said Salt Lake coach
Betsy Specketer. "We stayed aggressive and had a big second half. We got a huge game from Savanah (Crane) and Miki'ala (Maio) was her usual solid self. It was great having her back on the court."
Salt Lake and Georgia Highlands went back-and-forth through the first half, heading into halftime tied at 35-35. With SLCC leading by a point, 53-52, heading into the final period, the Bruins powered to a 26-11 run to earn the win. SLCC's defense limited Georgia Highlands to 25 percent shooting in the final period (3-of-12), part of a 41.5 percent shooting performance.
Miki'ala Maio led SLCC with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, making two three-point shots.
Savanah Crane had 17 points, while
Dixie Lainhart and
Hazel Fui had 11 points each.
The Bruins will play again on Saturday against Williston State, with a scheduled start of 5:30 p.m.
