TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 28, 2018) - There is truly no rest for the weary in college athletics.
Not that winning programs need it much though. The No. 10 Salt Lake Community College women's soccer program certainly doesn't, especially with the Bruins enjoying the excitement of capturing the 2018 Region 18 title on Saturday at Zions Bank Stadium. However, Saturday's big victory was really just a step in the right direction, but not a long-term end in itself. SLCC's focus now is on the upcoming NJCAAÂ District One Championships, which will take place next Saturday.
SLCCÂ coach
Mark Davis said his team is excited to have their season continue.
"The euphoria of winning the Region 18 championship comes from the victory, but more so from having the opportunity to continue working together as a team," he said. "This group of players has enjoyed the journey to this point, as have the coaches. We're excited to continue seeing what we can accomplish together."
Salt Lake will play Paradise Valley Community College next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. PST in Phoenix. The Pumas are ranked at No. 19 in the latest NJCAA rankings, with PVCC capturing their own region title with a 4-0 victory over previously-undefeated No. 1 Arizona Western. The winner of the match will advance into the following weekend's NJCAAÂ national tourney.
Davis said Paradise Valley will present a stern challenge.Â
"Our group needs to understand the opportunity in front of them, and we will drive that home all week as coaches," he said. "Paradise Valley is a fundamentally-sound program that is extremely well-coached; they will require our full attention. We're so close to accomplishing another goal, so we can't let up now."
