Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 27, 2018) - For the No. 10 Salt Lake Community College women's soccer team, Oct. 27, 2018 will go down as a day where a significant goal was accomplished. However, the Bruins still haven't reached the pinnacle of their mission, even with Saturday's important accomplishments.
Salt Lake captured its first Region 18 championship crown, downing in-state rival Snow College 2-1 in double-overtime at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. The victory lifts Salt Lake into next weekend's NJCAAÂ District One championships, where the Bruins will attempt to earn a berth into the NJCAAÂ national tourney.Â
Bruins coach
Mark Davis said the win is a landmark for the program.
"As long as this program is around, our department will look at today as a significant accomplishment," he said. "It's a tremendous feeling to move on into national competition and to represent this institution. We are so excited."
It was Snow College who took control early in the match, with Tayah Reynolds scoring an unassisted goal early in the second period to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead. With just minutes left in the match, SLCC'sÂ
Callie Fisher took a pass from
Baylie Saunders and found the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1. After a scoreless first overtime period, the Bruins punched their ticket early in the second overtime, as
Sydney Hathaway connected on a shot that will live in the history books.
SLCCÂ goalie
Mckenna Eaves proved her worth as one of the Scenic West Athletic Conference's top players, finishing with six crucial saves in the match. The Bruins held a 14-10 advantage in shots. With the victory, Salt Lake's overall record sits at 14-1-1. Snow College ends the season with a record of 14-2-0.
Salt Lake will now await its foe in the NJCAA District One Championships next weekend. The host is yet-to-be-determined.Â
