TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 17, 2018) - With two weeks remaining in the regular season, the No. 3 Salt Lake Community College volleyball program is sitting in the drivers' seat in the ultra-competitive Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Salt Lake sits at 24-1 overall, holding a perfect 7-0 record in league play. As SLCCÂ prepares for the second-to-last weekend of league competition, the Bruins are looking forward to facing off against Southern Nevada and No. 5 Snow College in road matches. With Salt Lake sitting a full two games ahead of Southern Idaho in the league standings, the stakes continue to rise.
"As we hit the road this week, we've been having solid practices," said Bruins coach
Sue Dulaney. "This group has its eye on the prize, which is bringing the region tourney to Salt Lake."
Both of SLCC's challengers this week will bring great challenges to the NJCAA's third-ranked program. Starting with Southern Nevada Thursday, the Bruins will face a Coyotes program that is 1-5 in league play but sitting at 5-6 at home. Salt Lake defeated CSN 3-0 in their first matchup on Sept. 29 in Taylorsville.
While Thursday's match will provide a good challenge for SLCC to start the weekend, the stakes of Saturday's match cannot be overstated, as the Bruins travel to play the nation's fifth-ranked Snow College Badgers. Snow is on a three-match winning streak in league play, sitting 2.5 games behind Salt Lake in the league standings.
Dulaney said both road contests will provide a great challenge to her team.
"Last weekend, we saw a few players that have had limited court time really excel," she said. "We've talked about staying healthy and resting, yet working hard in practice and in the weight room. The balance between the two is important this time of year."
Thursday's match at Southern Nevada will start at 7:00 p.m. PST, with Saturday's match at Snow College starting at 3:00 p.m. MDT. Recaps for both matches will be available after the match on www.slccbruins.com.Â
