TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 10, 2018) - The No. 15 Salt Lake Community College women's soccer program has been waiting to return to the pitch, sometimes impatiently.
The Bruins were on a two-match winning streak heading into an extended break in their Scenic West Athletic Conference schedule, part of a 9-1-1 overall start to the season. Now, as the return of conference play lies ahead, SLCC is hoping the nearly two-week rest will provide them a lift as they attempt to capture their first SWAC regular-season crown.
"Our players are very excited at the opportunities that lie ahead of us," said Bruins coach
Mark Davis. "We have an awesome opportunity ahead of us over the next few weeks, as we're half-a-game behind in the SWAC standings as we try to capture our first league crown."
Salt Lake is a perfect 9-0 at home, but the road has slightly perplexed the Bruins as they are just 0-1-1. That will make Saturday's matchup at Southern Nevada challenging, as the Coyotes are a traditionally-strong program in Vegas. In spite of that past success, CSN is just 6-5-1 on the season, with a record of 1-5-1 in the Scenic West.
Still, in spite of the Coyotes' struggles, Davis said Southern Nevada poses significant challenges.
"We're traveling to play a program that has consistently been at the top of our program," he said. "This weekend will take focus, dedication and physicality to earn a victory."
Saturday's match with Southern Nevada will start at 11:00 a.m. A recap of the match will be available at www.slccbruins.com after the match.
