Salt Lake baseball goes 1-1 in season-opening doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 26, 2018) - A contrasting set of games greeted the Salt Lake Community College baseball team in their season-opening doubleheader against South Mountain Community College.

Playing at Dixie High School's stadium in St. George, Utah, the Bruins picked up a 5-3 victory in game one of the doubleheader, falling 9-6 in the second game of the day. Salt Lake took a 3-0 lead early in game one against South Mountain, eventually earning a win thanks to Ben Weese's five innings of scoreless ball.

Game two wasn't as kind to the Bruins. South Mountain led 2-0 after the first inning and, while Salt Lake countered with three runs in the bottom of the second inning, the Bruins couldn't South Mountain off the scoreboard. Jaxson Otis led SLCC with a 2-of-3 performance and a double, while also scoring two runs.

The Bruins will play South Mountain in a doubleheader Saturday, with first pitch in game one scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Dixie High in St. George. Salt Lake will play its next game on Feb. 9, as the Bruins travel to Las Vegas for the Coyote Border Battle.
