Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 13, 2018) - The Salt Lake Community College Bruins took a step back Thursday, falling at home to rival College of Southern Idaho in a tight contest.
College basketball programs inevitably will take steps back during a season, but coaches want their programs to respond with confidence, renewed focus and energy coming out of a narrow loss like SLCC's; to take several steps forward. Going on the road to face in-state foe Snow College, the Bruins had a tall task to achieve a victory of this type in an adverse environment.
However, per the usual in 2017-18, Salt Lake responded in impressive fashion to move to 2-1 in Scenic West play, earning a 62-52 victory over Snow College. The Bruins overcame a 24-21 halftime deficit to earn the victory, outscoring the Badgers 41-28 in the second half to move to 2-0 on the road in league play.
Salt Lake held an 11-9 lead after the first quarter but still trailed at halftime, thanks to a shooting percentage of 28.6 percent (8-of-28). The Bruins controlled the second half with physicality, earning their points at the free-throw line. Salt Lake made 20-of-22 foul shots in the second half, compared to Snow's 7-of-8, providing a clear advantage.
Tia Hay led the Bruins in scoring, finishing with 28 points on 7-of-10 shooting and a perfect 14-of-14 free-throw shooting. Miki'alo Maio also contributed 13 points for Salt Lake.
