Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 13, 2018) - Like your favorite Top-40 radio station, the hits and successes just keep on playing for the No. 4 Salt Lake Community College Bruins.
The Bruins have passed three critical tests early in the Scenic West Athletic Conference portion of the season, earning a hard-fought road win over USU Eastern and a blowaway win over No. 9 Southern Idaho. In a road game against always-tough Snow College, the Bruins knew grit and execution would be needed to leave Ephraim with a victory. Fortunately for SLCC, the Bruins found both as they climbed to 3-0 in league play after earning an 83-77 win over the Badgers Saturday. Salt Lake's record is now 20-1 on the season.
It was not a walk-away victory for the Bruins, who trailed 40-37 at halftime. Salt Lake shot well from the field but struggled at the three-point line, making just 2-of-7 shots from distance; in comparison, Snow made 7-of-13. However, the story changed in the second half as Salt Lake limited Snow to 39.3 percent shooting (11-of-28) and only 38.5 percent from long distance (5-of-13). SLCCÂ outscored Snow College 46-37 in the second half.
On a night with many heroes, it was the bench who proved to make the ultimate difference for Salt Lake, according to Bruins coach
Todd Phillips. SLCC held a 31-18 advantage in bench points, a margin that proved to be a back-breaker in a game that saw seven different lead changes.
Continuing a strong run in league play,
Christian Gray led Salt Lake in scoring, finishing with 19 points and 9 rebounds on 8-of-10 shooting.
Matt Lindsey also had another strong performance off the bench, finish with 13 points (2-of-2 from three-point range).
Bushmen Ebet and
Kur Kuath also finished in double figures.
The Bruins will play Thursday, hosting Colorado Northwestern inside Bruin Arena. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start, with live stats available at www.slccbruins.com. The game will also be streamed at live.ksl.com.Â
