Specketer picks up 500th win, Bruins beat Midland in overtime

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 18, 2017) – For Betsy Specketer, the prospect of the next game has always been the biggest draw.

However, for the veteran Salt Lake Community College women's basketball leader, Saturday was more than just another game, more than just another win. Instead, Saturday's 54-51 overtime Bruins win over Midland College marked the 500th career win for one of the NJCAA's all-time coaching figures.

Salt Lake struggled offensively early, trailing 14-7 at the end of the first quarter as the Bruins made just 2-of-12 shots in the opening quarter. Midland held a 15-14 win at the half.

Both teams improved in the second half, with SLCC shooting 50 percent in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 46-46 to end regulation. Salt Lake out-scored Midland 8-5 in the overtime to earn the win.

Tia Hay and Miki'ala Maio helped make the difference for Salt Lake, with both scoring 13 points. Emma Villas-Gomis also finished in double-figures for the Bruins, scoring 11 points.

The Bruins will play their first game of the season at home Friday in the SLCC Thanksgiving Classic, as Salt Lake hosts Casper College at 5:00 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.slccbruins.com, with streaming on live.ksl.com.
