Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah- No.21 Salt lake Community College defeated conference opponents USU Eastern 84-81 Saturday night at home. The Bruins had four players in double figures. SLCC improves to 18-4 on the season and 8-1 in conference.
"We played hard and battled as a team," assistant coach
Andrew May said. "We handled the pressure they put on us, especially late in the game."
SLCC was led by De'Sean Parson who posted a game-high 20 points.
Blake Wilkinson added 16 points and six rebounds.
Gibson Johnson tallied 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
CJ Spjute contributed 10 points to round out the night. Parsons and Johnson both shot 60 percent from the field.
In the first half, there were 17 lead changes and the ball game was tied 12 times. The Bruins went into the locker room down 35-34.
In the second, Salt Lake gained the lead with 17:39 left in the game when
Gibson Johnson connected on two free throws. The Bruins extended their lead to as many as 16. The Golden
Eagles were able to bring it within three but ultimately fell to the Bruins free throws. SLCC shot 74.1 percent from the free throw line.
"We handled free throws down the stretch," May said. "This was a good team win."
The Bruins hit the road to face Snow College January 24. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.
