Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO- No. 8 seed Salt Lake (2-1) beat No. 5 seed Shelton State (0-2) 15-13 in a thrilling slugfest. Shelton State led 4-1 after the end of the first inning. The Buccaneers hit a grand slam and the Bruins got a run off an RBI single from 1B Jalen Seward.
Shelton scored another run in the second inning, but Salt Lake tied the game 5-5 after RBI singles from CF Luke Jacobs and RF Hudson Manwaring, and an error that led to two unearned runs.
Salt Lake took their first lead in the bottom of the fourth. Jalen Seward hit a two-run home run and then SS Jake Olsen hit an RBI single to give the Bru Cru a 8-7 lead.
The Bruins extended the lead 11-7 as 3B Taylor Ayala cleared the bases with an RBI double in the fifth. The lead disappeared after Stetson erupted for six runs in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs in the sixth, Stetson rallied with five hits and a walk and led 13-11.
Salt Lake tied the game 13-13 in the bottom half as LF Chandler Reber hit a two-run home run.
SLCC took the lead 14-13 once again as Luke Jacobs hit a sac-fly in the seventh. The Bruins got a big insurance run in the eighth as DH Avery Doezie hit a solo home run.
RHP Dan Brousseau got the final out of the sixth inning and shut down Stetson's lineup in the seventh and eighth. RHP Darius Henderson got the save for Salt Lake as he struck out two batters. When asked about his mindset going into the ninth the SLCC closer said; "Water boils at 212 degrees, so I try to pitch at 211 degrees so I don't boil over and overdue things." Henderson retired the side and recorded his ninth save of the season.
Both teams recorded 16 hits and each team homered three times. Seward totaled four RBI, three runs scored, and two hits. Jacobs went 3 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Six different Bruin players had two or more hits.

The Bruins are now (2-1) in the JUCO World Series. The Bru Cru now play the loser of Lake Land vs. Florence-Darlington in a win or go home game at 2:00 pm on Wednesday May, 27th.
