Henderson, NV—The SLCC Baseball team (12-8, 4-2 SWAC) swept a doubleheader vs. Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe
No. 22-ranked College of Southern Nevada (CSN) (13-9, 2-4 SWAC) on Thursday at Morse Stadium.
SLCC won the day's first contest
6-3 in a seven inning game and rallied to defeat the Coyotes
8-7 in the night cap.
Game 1 Recap: Salt Lake claimed an early 2-0 lead by tallying a pair of runs in the first inning of game one, with CSN scoring a run in the second inning, one in the fourth inning and one in the fifth frame to take a 3-2 lead. Down to its final out of the game, SLCC sent freshman utility player
Garrett Bushman (Farmington, UT) with two runners on base.
Bushman singled with a full count to score sophomore infielder
Derrick Whitney (South Jordan, UT) from second base and tie the contest at 3-3. Sophomore infielder
Robert Grilli (Mississauga, ONT) was next to bat and tagged a three-run home run to lift the Bruins to a 6-3 lead. Salt Lake walked the first two CSN batters in the bottom of the seventh but the Bruins retired the next three Coyotes to seal the road victory.
Game 2 Recap: The Bruins fell behind 6-0 after three innings but used a productive three-run fourth inning coupled with four runs in the sixth frame to build a 7-6 lead. Each team tallied a run in the seventh inning and both squads went scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
Game 1 Stats vs. CSN: Grilli was 2-for-4 at the plate with a three-run home run and a pair of runs scored.
Whitney was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored and sophomore catcher
Colton Barkdull (Erda, UT) was 1-for-4 with one run batted in (RBI) and one run scored.

Jason Jourdan (Syracuse, UT) struck out two CSN batters with four walks issued. He allowed six base hits and three runs, all earned, in 4.1 innings pitched. Freshman pitcher

Eric Carter (Santa Clara, UT) had one strikeout and one walk with no hits or runs surrendered in 1.0 innings on the mound.

Zach Watts (West Jordan, UT) was 2-for-4 with two solo home runs.
Whitney went 2-for-5 at the plate with one RBI and a pair of runs scored and freshman infielder
Taylor Snyder (Elk Ridge, UT) was 1-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored.
Sophomore pitcher
Tanner Johnson (Manhattan, MT) struck out three Coyote batters with four walks issued. He yielded five hits and six runs (four earned) in 2.2 innings of work.
Freshman pitcher
TJ Baker (Acton, ONT) struck out six CSN batters with no walks, one hit and one run (earned) allowed in 4.1 innings on the mound to earn the
win in game two. Sophomore pitcher
Brady Corless (Spanish Fork, UT) picked up the
save with two strikeouts, no walks and one hit allowed in 1.0 innings pitched.
