Price, UT—The SLCC baseball team (23-9, 13-3 SWAC) picked up a doubleheader sweep of in-state opponent USU-Eastern (11-14) on Thursday in non-conference play. SLCC has won 13 of its last 14 games and remains atop the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) standings ahead of Western Nevada College (22-10, 7-5 SWAC).
Game 1 Stats: Freshman pitcher Jared White (Riverton, UT) picked up the win in game one with two runs allowed in seven innings on the mound. Sophomore pitcher Jordan Hager (Farmington, UT) threw a scoreless eighth inning and sophomore pitcher Eric Carter (Santa Clara, UT) earned the save with two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning of work.
Sophomore outfielder Nick Urban (Las Vegas, NV) was 1-for-4 at the plate with a home run and freshman infielder Taylor Snyder (Elk Ridge, UT) was also 1-for-4 with a home run in the winning effort. Sophomore outfielder Zach Watts (West Jordan, UT) was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and freshman catcher Zach Willis (Lindon, UT) was 3-for-4.
Freshman utility player Garrett Bushman (Farmington, UT) was 1-for-3 at the plate with a triple, a sacrifice fly and three runs batted in (RBI).
Game 2 Stats: Freshman pitcher TJ Baker (Acton, ONT) picked up the game two win with four strikeouts and no earned runs allowed in four innings pitched. Freshman pitcher Cameron Cole (Las Vegas, NV) struck out two Golden Eagle batters in a scoreless fifth inning on the mound.
Urban was 2-for-3 in game two with a walk and freshman outfielder Caleb Summerhays (Las Vegas, NV) was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks. Sophomore infielder Derrick Whitney (South Jordan, UT) was 3-for-3 with a three-run home run and five RBI in the winning effort. Watts went 3-for-4 with two doubles to help the Bruins secure the doubleheader sweep by run rule in five innings of play.Bushman was 3-for-4 and freshman catcher Tyler Hamilton (Lindon, UT) was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and four RBI.
Next up for Head Coach DG Nelson and the Bruins is a pair of home games against USU-Eastern on Saturday, Mar. 29 at Cate Field in West Jordan, UT. First pitch for game one is slated for Noon with game two beginning 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first contest.
